ORION CHARTERS - HALIBUT FISHING

SOME OF THE BIG CATCHES FROM THE 2001 SEASON

  8/14/2001.  Jerry Chubbs, Tom Michaud, Mark Adams, Doug Scott, Cindy Hitchcock and Bob ?  Five biggest halibut pictured: 216#/80", 190#/74", 162#/72", 134#/67", 125#/64".  Seven other halibut not pictured were from 65# to 105#/61".   Approximately 1,450 pounds of halibut kept, many released.

8/8/2001 Dr. Kelly Hawkins with 200#/80", Dorsey Hawkins, Mike, Scott, & Chris Triolo, and Tim Washelski with, 198#/77", 174#/74", and 105#/61" halibut. Not pictured, 6 other halibut 40 to 90# and a 55# Ling Cod. Approximately 1,000 pounds of halibut kept.   Another much larger halibut was hooked at the same time as the 200#, however was lost. 

  8/6/2001 Melinda Via, Art Montoya, Wade Bryton, Kenny Loggins, Ron & Angella Thomas.  Pictured with 244#/ 81", 192#/76", and 183#/75" Halibut. Other halibut were 20 to 40#, plus 2 red snapper and 1 Ling Cod.

6/13/2001 Tim Washeleski, Lorraine , Roy Wiggins, Danny Winchester, BillWellburn.  150#/69", 140#/67", 127#/67", 127#/65", 101#'61", 5 other halibut 70# to 100#, plus 10 red snapper and 1 copper rockfish.  Released 15 Ling Cod to 65# and many halibut were also released.  Approximately 1,100 pounds of halibut and 150 pounds of rockfish kept.  This was a great day of fishing.

7/1/2001 Larry Sandvik, Angella & Harry Ketzler, Shane Grubaugh, Scott Bigdolt, and Craig Woods.
        
Approximately 1,100 pounds of halibut kept.  Shane Grubaugh caught the 224# halibut.   The seas were building into 8 to 10 foot waves that were breaking over the stern. Only very experienced crews could of caught these fish.

224#/80", 155#/69", 146#/67", 104#, 85#, and 6 other halibut from 50# to 80#, plus several rockfish.

   
Casey Richardson's 216#/74" halibut caught on 7/10/2001

  7/3/2001 Tim Washelski, Joey Merrick, Ron , Mike Remington.  152#, 150#, 141#, 116#,  plus 8 other halibut from 50# to 110#, 6 Ling cod to 50#, and 2 red snapper.  Approximate weight of fish was 1,400 pounds.  We also lost a very large halibut that day that was on for approximately 30 minutes.  The fish that got away wrapped around the anchor line.   Our fish in the picture are on a blue tarp because the harbormaster said that he does not want any fish slime on the docks.

7/2/2001 Sam Cornell, Galyen Steward, Chris Bender, Jim Williams, Rick Jones, and Eric Seward. 180#, 170#, 160#, 110#, 80#, 5 other halibut from 55# to 75#, plus 3 red snapper.  Approximate weight of halibut was 1,050 pounds.

Left, 7/25/2001 193#/76", 125#/66", 10 other halibut from 30 to 65#, 12 red snapper, and 6 ling cod from 40 to 60#. Approximately 1,100 pounds of fish.

Right, 6/14/2001, 159#, 132#, 100#, 90#, 9 other halibut from 40 to 80 pounds, 14 red snapper, released 8 ling cod. Approximately 1,200 pounds of fish.

Left, 6/17/2001, 132#, 112#, 98#, 7 other halibut from 40 to 90#, 12 red snapper, 2 black sea bass, 1 silver-gray rockfish.

Right, 6/10/2001, 125#, 105#, 100#, 95#, 9 other halibut from 30 to 60#, 12 red snapper, 7 black sea bass.

5/16/2001 - 183#/74", 135#, 105#, 10 other halibut from 30 to 90#, 1 red snapper
